Susan Boyle（中文名：蘇珊·波伊爾），47歲，來自蘇格蘭中南部的小鎮，其貌不揚。 2009年4月11日，卻在電視選秀節目《英倫有才人》（Britain's Got Talent 2009）初選登台演出中一鳴驚人，演唱音樂劇《 悲慘世界 》（Les Miserables）中的歌曲《我曾有夢》（I Dreamed a Dream）。

蘇珊在地方教堂從事慈善工作，12歲開始唱歌，一直夢想成為伊蓮·佩姬 （ Elaine Paige ）一樣的職業歌唱家。
剛開始，蘇珊·波伊爾一走上台，根本沒人想听她唱歌，從頭土到腳不說，台下觀眾還一副想看她笑話的表情，就別提超尖酸刻薄的評審賽門柯威爾，不停問話嘲諷她想讓她出糗，甚至表明她住的鄉下地方，連聽都沒聽過。

但是，當蘇珊才開口唱出舞台劇“悲慘世界”的名曲“I dreamed a dream”，全場只能用歡聲雷動、從頭尖叫鼓掌到尾來形容，許多電視機前面的婦女同胞們，還不斷打電話進電視台，說自己邊看邊哭了呢，其中也包括好萊塢大明星黛咪·摩爾。

這次在選秀節目中一展歌喉，著實震驚了裁判和觀眾。
“當你站在舞台上說，你想成為伊蓮·佩姬時，大家都在笑你”裁判之一的皮爾斯·摩根在評判時說，“現在沒人笑話了。震撼、無與倫比的表演” ，“毋庸置疑，這是節目開辦三年來最大的驚喜”。 蘇珊·波伊爾成為英倫復活節假日的熱門話題，媒體歡呼她會成為下一位歌唱明星。
